12月19日 Getting Merrier by the minute...So it's all happening... Well, it's all the same anyhow! Still working at GI. The only difference there is that we have a different ship inthe Captain Cook Graving Dock (that's the real name for the Dry Dock). Now the last of the guided missile frigates (the Newcastle) is in for it's upgrade. I've been doing as much overtime as possible, mainly to try and get my mortgage down. I really hate paying a bank so much interest every month, so all my overtime is going towards it. More pics following, again move cursor over for explanation...
As you can see Jac and Dan had their engagement party at Strathfield Golf Club, congratulations again to you both. 11月10日 14 Weeks Later...Here's a bunch of photos from the last 14 weeks, or whatever it is since I last did this. If you hover your curser over them you should get a brief explanation of what you are looking at or click on it make it big... So things have been somewhat busy, but I notice that this blog is still getting plenty of hits... (why? I don't know...) As you can see from the pics, I am still working at Garden Island. Things are going ok. This ship will be leaving the dock in the next week or so, so maybe I'll get some more up to date pics soon. I'm not drinking at the Vegas Lounge in the Cross anymore, I've barred it... Reason - I was having a few quite ones, with a workmate, on a Friday afternoon. It came the time when it was his shout so he ordered them at the bar, as you do. After the bar maid poured them she asked him for ID... Being 27 years old, my colleague said that he didn't have it on him because he had been at work and that he was 27 and didn't think he needed it. She then refused him service and told him he had to leave on the grounds that you must be carrying photographic ID to drink in that pub! We had already been in the pub for 1/2 an hour and had 2 schooners by this stage. He came back and told me what happened. I said that that was bullshit and went to the bar as was quickly served the 2 beers no questions asked. After returning to our seats the barmaid and the manager(ess) came over and told me that I shouldn't have bought those beers and gave me my money back for my colleagues and then threw him out. I argued that because I knew him and knew that he was well over 18 that i had ever right to buy him a beer, and that the security guards new that we were regulars and over 18, but that made no difference, he still had to go. So I was left sitting there dumbfounded. Otherrs in the pub were also shocked! I gathered my thoughts, picked up my beer and slammed it down on the bar declaring that they could stick it their fat arses, I don't want it or even be in this shithole anymore, and that I would never come back, and walked out. What a fucking joke. That pub is full of Junkies, Dealers, Dropkicks and all the dregs of society and they pick on us. Well they can get fucked, I'm not going back. Instead, I drink in Woolloomooloo. You might find me at the Frisco, Tilbury, Woolloomooloo Bay, Bells or all of them in one night. And yes I am enjoying it a lot more than that other sess pit! I wish there was an emoticon of ficking the 'bird'...
8月5日 Like Coming Home from a Dodgy HolidayThat's the best way to describe what it was like to start work back at Garden Island this week. It all happened quite quickly really. I got the call on Friday afternoon to see if I was available, the paperwork was done during my prestart 'interview' on Saturday and I was at work Monday morning. This time I am working for the Dockmaster, even though I am now employed through an agency, so they can get rid of me each time the ships get refloated. But it's like putting on an old pair of boots. We are currently working on the Spirit of Tasmania I (couple of pics below) for another week then HMAS Success will come in. Not sure for how long though.
From my last post up until starting back at GI, I continued to work at that house renovation in Longueville. It was starting to really piss me off though. Why do Labourers get treated like shit? I was laughing internally every time the foreman put shit on me. I knew that I would only be doing that work for a while and that at 56 years of age, that was all he knew how to do... I didn't give them any warning, I just didn't show up on the Monday. Hey, if you're going to employ casuals you gotta expect casual behaviour. Have I mentioned that I played a 'come back' game in 5th grade the other week and that I was captain and we won and that is the only game that they have won this year and that I am the undefeated captain of 5th grade? I've finally given in to the 'craze' and have signed up to Facebook even though it's only for 15 year old girls. Click on that link to get your own, oh and add me, I'll be your friend... I'm sure other stuff has happened and it probably involved drinking beer but I couldn't be bothered putting it here. Windows has been pissing me off. They are adding updates to this whole spaces thingy and it's just becoming too hard to post a blog now. I've been trying to post this for 3 days... We'll see what happens this time! Dutchy - When was the last time you used your shoulders to make a tackle? 7月17日 10 days at a glanceFriday: Didn't bother ringing up for work... Did housework instead!!
Saturday: Flew to Brisvegas for a former workmates (PK's) wedding. Overnight at Robertson Gardens.
Sunday: Flew back to Sydneytown/recovered.
Monday: Working for an Earthmoving company in Stanhope Gardens. New suburb near Bella Vista. Washed out, sent home.
Tuesday: Back working in Stanhope Gardens.
Wednesday: Stanhope Gardens...
Thursday: Stanhope Gardens again... but I'd had enuf and told Trojan not to send me back there... Got a different assignment...
Friday: Working for a residential building company on site in Longueville (Lane Cove). I like residential. Nothing is too big or heavy when you build a house as opposed to when you are building a new suburb...!
Saturday: Dave, my driver, picked me up and took me to Waitara to watch Briars play. It was so cold that I had to get on the cans by the start of 3rds. Ended up at the club until closing. Good session, wish I had eaten something...!
Sunday: Wanted to do the Sunday session to blow out some cobwebs because, clearly I had drunk enuf the day/night before, but my mum called in and didn't leave till late. By then I was too mentally fatigued to do anything...
Monday: Back to Longueville
Today: Also in Longueville...
Somewhere in there I got a call from the guy putting together the team to work on the next ship into Garden Island. He said that I'd be invited back to work on it in a few weeks time and that there was about a years work there. Aren't I lucky... Today I got a call from Transfield who were putting together a team to work on a shutdown in Brisbane at the Caltex Lytton refinery. It was for the whole of August and then come back and have 2 weeks off and then start a shutdown at Caltex Kurnell refinery for 4 weeks. I had to say no to that because there is the possibility of a years work in Sydney. That invite had better come through...!
Dutchie: Who sharpens all the little Keno pencils at the club? 7月5日 The Wallabies won what?My dream run came to an end on Thursday arvo after being told I wasn't required to "work" on Friday. Oh well, it was money for nothing anyhow... I didn't bother trying to find something else to do, I just had another relaxing day at home...
The Briars took on Epping at Rothwell on Saturday, and I got there in time to watch Colts go around. They Lost. Then 4ths Lost. Then 3rds WON. Then 2nds Lost, and then 1sts Lost... In that time I seem to have amassed quite a few cans under my belt and was sufficiently pickled so I headed home to watch the Wallabies and All Blacks...
Dougie and David joined me for the game and few more cans (but this time bottles). There's no point rubbing it in or bragging about winning on this blog because we all know Kiwis can't read...
Sunday session #2 has occured. Good numbers once again. Everyone will need to wear shorts in future, especially if Washy is going to be anywhere near the firewood! Tigers got up, you beauty!
On Monday, Dougie and I went to measure up a few rooms in his new place. I think he actually refered to it as his new 'project'. Then we rewarded ourselves, for that 5 minutes work, with a coffee in West Ryde. My Mum rang and needed some help at the Drummoyne house, so I voluteered Dougie to come over and help me help my Mum. (By the way, remember that house I was in? The new owners rented it for a year and then didn't have enough money to buy it, so we kicked them out...!) Dougie was somewhat inspired for his new 'project'.
Tuesday was another nothing day. I downloaded and filled out forms for a large mining contract company (Monadelphous). That took most of my day. Lots to read, lots to fill out. I got the call in the arvo for work the next day and stubbornly agreed to work, only because it was at the new Concord Library and Community Centre.
So I worked there yesterday and today and it was tough work. I haven't worked so hard for so little money in a long time. Headed to the club for Origin and Trivia, and Dinner. So that meant I was a little dusty today and wasn't in the mood to work like a dog. At one point I turned to a fellow 'Labourer' and said "you know what, Fuck this shit, I'm outta here" and walked off with full intention of leaving but while I was washing up he approached me and asked me to stay to help him, otherwise he would have to do it all on his own. I felt guilty and stayed, but I did as little as possible...
Dutchie - There's a rat in mi kitchen, what am I gonna do? 6月27日 I'm Temporarily EmployedSo the boredom finally got to me. I had a long lunch with my Mum last Wednesday and I realised that I really needed to do something, anything at all, just to get me out and about...
I'm not convinced anyone has bought anything yet... http://www.croakingenvironment.com.au/
So on Thursday I hit the employment sites hard... I checked every job, did reserach about the companies that were advertising and even researched some of the mines and major works going on around the country. About the only thing I didn't do was apply for anything... It was about 1pm and I was having a bit of a siesta when my phone rang. It was a fella from Trojan Workforce. I had apparently filled in some details on their website to get some information or something... He said he didn't have any major work for Riggers at the moment but if I wanted to, I could come into the office in Glebe and fill in the paperwork and get my name 'on file'... I agreed to it and went to met him at 2pm. While I was filling in some forms he came back into the room and asked if I have a First Aid Cert (yes, I do) and then said he had a job starting the next day (Friday) as a First Aider on a Construction site in Holsworthy. Was I interested? Well, I didn't have to think for very long... Yes I'm interested, tell me more, place, money etc? Everything was satisfactory...
So I lob at this construction site in the Holsworthy Army Base, 10 minutes early, only to find no one around and the gates all locked up. I waited and right on 7am this fella shows up and opens everything up. Still no one else around! I make my way into the site and find this guy now in the site office. The introductions are done and I've started work! The site is about the size of a football field but there is only about 6 people working there! One of those is me! What are the chances of someone getting hurt??? I end up spending most of the day reading the paper and my book...
Friday night I went to the Club and bought $10 worth of raffle tickets. I bloody won 3 meat trays out of the 12 on offer! Arsyest raffle win ever...
Saturday I got a lift with Lahar to Lindfield to watch the Briars boys play (first time this year). Got on the cans a bit during the games, enjoyed seeing everyone again. Went back to the club to try out the new Bistro. I wasn' too impressed but they have only just started and they'll get the benefit of the doubt.
Sunday was time for the first Sunday session of the year! A good gathering around the fire up at the West Ryde, until Walshy burnt all the wood anyhow. Good food, Good footy, Good beer, Good company. We must do it again, I love a Sunday session...
Been working everyday this week. Yesterday they gave me the keys to the site, so today I opened up!
Tonight Dougie gave me his lounge. They are moving out soon (bought a house in Ermo) and don't want to take it! There may be an alterior motive, afterall, there are a few big footy matches coming up (Bledisloe, Origin etc) and I'm guessing that Dougie has just booked himself a seat...!
Dutchie - What would you do if I sang out of tune? Would you turn round and walk out on me?
I couldn't think of anything else...! Sorry 6月19日 Into Week 2 I GoWith the weather begining to turn foul again I will be sure to keep an eye on these site... Hoping to catch the moment that the Pasha Bulker breaks in half here - Pasha Bulker and checking the radar for the storms here - Radar
Not a lot has happened, in fact it would be fair to say nothing has happened and I haven't done anything at all. I am spending my days talking to ex work mates on the phone, checking on the employment websites and reading my book. I was actually enjoying not doing anything and having a little break from having to go to work, but this weather is starting to depress me. I'm not used to being stuck inside all day. There is only so much aimless walking around shopping centres that a guy can handle...
Dutchie - Did you know that Trivia is the Roman goddess of sorcery, hounds and the crossroads 6月17日 Do Weekends Count? Is this colour annoying? Bad Luck...
You haven't bought anything from my sis yet... http://www.croakingenvironment.com.au/
Well I did nothing yesterday (Saturday)... It was raining and cold all day, so I thought bugger it and I went on STRIKE. I've always said that I won't work in the rain until Workcover covers the flu... Same will apply in my unemployment!
I did back the Wallabies with 10.5 points start against the Springboks. I even stayed up to watch it and it was a really close match. We really looked good compared to the Wales matches. Defence was outstanding. We were only beaten by a lousy drop goal in the end but I still collected...
I also had a lazy couple of bucks on Aaron Baddeley @ $9 to win the US Open. So I was happy to wake up today and find him in the lead... Don't choke now Aaron...
Dave and I headed out to Campbelltown to watch the Tigers take on the Titans. The pre match entertainment was awesome. 4 tandem skydivers landing on the field why the teams are out there warming up. So much better than a bunch of overweight schoolgirls "dancing" to a CD.... I was pretty keen for a Tigers win by 1-12 because I'd put all my Wallaby winnings on them @ $3.25. It took an ex Tigers player (Scott Prince) to ruin that one... Tigers went down by 2...
All my hopes are on Badds to get up and give me a collect. I need the cash, I'm unemployed...! 6月16日 About Day 7Did you buy something from my sisters company http://www.croakingenvironment.com.au/ yet?
Didn't end up doing anything on Thursday night... Does watching the stupidity that's called the Footy Show count as nothing? Yep, I did nothing...
Friday I was up at the crack of 9... I'd like to stay in bed longer but don't want to turn into an unemployed slob. Went for a 30 minute jog. Showered, coffee, honey and banana on puffed wheat for breakie. Trawled the net for a new employer. West Australia is nice this time of year, I've heard. That's where all the jobs seem to be. Chatted to a few of my unemployed collegues on MSN for a while, organised who would apply for which jobs, so we aren't competeing against each other...! I drew Townsville and West Aust...
Paid my Green Slip over the net and headed to the Ryde RTA to pay my rego. I was expecting to have to wait 20 minutes but to my shock I was served and outta there in less time than it took me to get there...! I dropped into West Ryde to do some shopping on my way home.
Dougie and I went to Rhodes for a coffee at about 3. This fat guy who had what looked like gangrene (is that how it's spelt) in his legs came and sat near us. He stunk and it was making me feel sick so Dougie and I went for a walk around the shops looking at lounges, TV's, books, magazines, wines and DVDs all while hoping that guy had moved on so we could go back for another coffee. As we decided the coast would be clear we headed back only to find that fella just leaving... We still had another muggacino...
By then it was time to head over to the club for the massive $1200 badge draw. I ran into Geoff Armstrong near the bar and got chatting to him about what he's up to. Writing the new George Gregan book was about as good an answer as I could have got. I won a bloody meat tray in the raffles. Schram man got drawn out for the $1200 but he wasn't there yet, so they drew a few more numbers who all weren't there. Then they made it 6 winners of $200 each and that was out of the people who were actually in the club. 6 randoms won those... I wanted to get some dinner from Nudie and was pissed off whe I found out that he's not there anymore. Instead they had this guy selling roast dinners for $5 a plastic plate. It looked disgusting. I was shitty about it, so I went to KFC on the way home... 6月14日 Day 6 UnemployedBuy something from my sisters company http://www.croakingenvironment.com.au/
NSW are fucking useless... What was Bailey thinking when he grabbed Prices leg and gave away that penalty. What was the ref thinking when that try was awarded to Bell... So many questions, so little money now!
It was a good thing that David came over to stop me from breaking anything (everyone else that came up with a lame excuse gets a strike). We got stuck into the beers and, in true origin spirit, turned up the volume to piss the neighbours off... We managed to argue with the TV about just about every decision made by the players and the ref during the game. We agreed that Anasta is gay and that Tate hit his knee on the scaffolding that is supporting his massive chin... Most enjoyable...
Didn't get out of bed until, shock horror, about 9 o'clock again! Considering that I have been waking up at 5am every day for the last 20 weeks, I am surprised at how easy it is to sleep in. Back then if I tried to sleep in on a Sunday, I would inevitably still be awake at 4.59am waiting for the alarm to not go off... Didn't have too much planned for today so there wasn't any rush. I pottered around the unit for a while and had some porridge and coffee. Checked some emails and did some trawling for jobs to apply for. I spent 45 minutes filling out a form for a company who was only asking for "Expressions of Interest". This form just went on and on. I thought it would never end. I guess it's just part of the whole weeding out of undesirables thingy... I went for a bit of a jog in the park, it's turning into a boredom cure for me... Then I walked up to the shop to get some bread rolls and a paper. Walked home to read that paper and make some lunch. Checked the employment pages and only found shit jobs so had to settle for doing the crosswords. I was going to go to visit Dave at work this arvo but it was belting down and too cold. Stayed home and watched Fight Club instead... Not sure what I'll get up to tonight yet.
There's lots of rain on the radar - click on that to look...
6月13日 Still Unemployed...In a bid to stop the whinging about this thingy not being updated and that I'm 'boring' now, I've decided to update it daily until I get a job...
Today I had a great sleep in until about 9am. Went for a 25 minute jog around the park... Had a bowl of museli and a cup of coffee. Had a shower. Went to Rhodes shopping centre to get a First Homeowners Grant form witnessed by a JP. Went to West Ryde to get a Pink Slip for my car. Had a coffee and read the paper at Gloria Jeans whilst waiting for my car. Got a phone call from one of my old workmates asking me if I'd been rung up and asked back yet. (No that hasn't happened)Returned home to check emails and trawl the internet for jobs. Applied for a couple more. One in Townsville, One in 'Northern NSW' (wherever the hell that is). Did the crosswords and sudoku in the paper whist having another coffee in the sun. Checked emails and jobs again. Walked up to the shop to get some milk and bread rolls. Cooked dinner, washed up and got ready for Origin II. I've back NSW to win by more than 2.5 for $2.10. I'm more than happy to take Centrebets money...
I've invited a few people of to watch it on my massive plasma. It'll be interesting to see who shows up and who gets a strike...! lol... 6月9日 Unemployed!Well, it just goes to show, you should never work too hard... They got us to work really hard, putting in long hours, to get this ship finished. We did so well that it was refloated 4 weeks ahead of schedule. The only problem is that the ship that was supposed to come in next has been delayed 2 months... We only found this out the day the current ship was being refloated. Hence they have nothing for us to do and we were all Laid Off!!! 200 out of 225 are now unemployed... I am one of them! Here's some final pics of the job...
So now I will be spending the long weekend updating my resume and sending applications for jobs all over the country... fun! 4月7日 I haven't added anything for 6 weeks...... and still got 200 hits this week! You guys are persistant, more persistant than me...!
So the new job is going well. Read about it here... FFG Upgrade. Working longish hours, 10 hrs Monday to Thurs, 8 hrs on Fri and Sat. Yes, the money is good, that's the whole reason behind doing it... I'm enjoying travelling on public transport again {sarcasm}, but at least I'm not driving my car as much, hence not giving as much cash to the bastard oil companies.
Been spending a bit of time on myspace because it's quicker and easier than this place. If you don't have a myspace page you really need one, all the cool kids have one...! Add me, I'll be your friend!!!
The Vegas Hotel in the Cross has become a bit of a local to me. It's across the road from the station, so it's really easy to drop in for one or ten after work and then jump a train home. Plus the schooners are only $2.50 between 5 and 7pm...
Haven't made too many plans for the rest of Easter other than watching the Tigers play the Cowboys somewhere tonight and going to the Show tomorrow afternoon. I'm back to work on Monday (yeah public holiday but it's double and a half, gotta think of the mortgage).
Had my birthday a couple of weeks ago (25th March). Didn't do anything, no one sent a card or even rang, only text messages and myspace love... what is this world coming to?
2月16日 To Be An AustralianMaybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people why today's Australian is not willing to accept the new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to Australia, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in Sydney and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new Australian households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home. They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labour laws to protect them. All they had were the skills, craftsmanship and desire they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity. Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. Australians fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany, Italy, France, Japan, Czechoslovakia, Russia, Sweden, and so many other places. None of these first generation Australians ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Australians fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan. They were defending the Freedom as one people. When we liberated France, no one in those villages was looking for the people of France, they saw only Australians. And we carried one flag that represented our country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be a Australian. And here we are in 2007 with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes an Australian passport and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an Australian all is about. Australians have been very open hearted and open minded regarding immigrants, whether they were fleeing poverty, dictatorship, persecution, or whatever else makes a person adopt a foreign country. And I suppose when we say adopt, we think of those aforementioned immigrants who truly did ADOPT our country, and our flag and our morals and our customs. And left their wars, hatred, and divisions behind. I believe that the immigrants who landed in Australia in the early 1900s deserve better than that for the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags, fighting foreign battles on our soil, making Australians change to suit their religions and cultures, and wanting to change our country's fabric by claiming discrimination when we do not give in to their demands. 2月11日 You keep coming here...!So the least I can do is update it I guess...
There's some photos below of my last gig on Pacific Star. None of them show any work being done but we were working hard for the whole 2 weeks.
Had several beers with Lahar the night I came back to Sydney. We went to the West Ryde Hotel for dinner. I really enjoyed eating a fat juicy steak...
Started my new job on the Monday. Have to catch the train to St James and walk or Circular Quay and get a bus to the island. Stupid rivercats don't start early enough to catch one to work. They do make for a relaxing way of getting home though. I'm working 10 hours per weekday at the moment and 8 hours on Saturday. The project I am on is the FFG Upgrade. That is the guide missile frigates such as HMAS Melbourne, Sydney, Darwin and Newcastle. We basically strip them back to a bare decks and hull and install all new equipment, electricals, missle launchers, everything! My job involves getting the old gear lifted out of it's position and placing the new gear in position using cranes etc... It's pretty cool and all the people seem ok so far. I'm wont be giving you regular updates of things that are happening because it's too hard to make it sound interesting, plus I HAVE SIGNED A CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT!
David and I had a big night before Australia Day. We started at my place then headed to the WRH only to find the doors locked! The Bayview was our saviour again and I think we stayed until close.
Dougie and Emilie had me over for dinner last Sunday, felt sorry for me because I looked so tired from work! I can't believe how fast his daughter Morgane is growing and developing a cheeky laugh.
Last night I went out to the Rocks for Tommy Weber's 18th Birthday. Venue was the Mercantile to start with and then to the Fortune of War. The night ended with Tommy chucking his guts on the footpath outside the Fortune... LOL who hasn't done that!
I want to get a posse together to go to The Foundation Cup next Saturday night between Tigers and Roosters at Aussie Stadium. If you wanna come contact me... 1月15日 From Noumea New CaledoniaWow, how things can change quickly...
I am aboard the Pacific Star atm working on what will be my last job for Nobles. I received a phone call on the Thursday before I left asking if I was interested in a job at Garden Island. I said yes, of course! So on Friday morning I was late to work because I was getting a medical done. I failed the drugs test because I had taking some Nurofen Plus which apparently has codine in it which shows up as morphine... Anyway that result will come back fine... I then went to work apologised for being late. Later that morning I was offered the job starting on Monday 22nd Jan. I knew I was leaving the next morning to work on this ship so I had to immediately call the State Manager, who was on leave in Adelaide, and give him my notice and advise that the ship is back on Sat 20th and therefore I would not be returning to work... So now I am pumped. Only 5 sleeps to go.
The cruise has been crap. I am working with mostly dorks. My cabin mate is a dork. The passengers are rude and fat. It's averaging about 39 degrees when we are working. Does it sound like I'm over it? I just wanna get back and start my new life...
Hope all is well with everyone... I will be thirsty by the time I get back... 1月1日 Happy New Year!I wish everybody a Safe and Happy New Year...
Attached is a photo of me after my family Christmas Lunch-a-thon...
Back to work tomorrow at Patricks. The rest of the week at Amcor Botany. From Saturday on Pacific Star for 2 weeks. Maybe come back for 1 week or go straight onto Pacific Sun for a week... That is the basic plan.
Caught up with the Wandering Wilko on Friday night at the Bayview for a thousand beers. It was the tequila that pushed me over the edge. I managed to cook us up a mean stir fry at about 1am and didn't burn my unit down...! So much better than a lebab... We discussed the slang terms for our currency which led me to consult an email from David of some research that I set him some time ago... Now it's official, Gaz says lock it in!
5 cents - nix (i.e. not worth anything)
10 cents - bit (i.e. a bit more than nix) 20 cents - 'two-bit' or 'a fifth' (of a dollar) 50 cents - fitty $1 coin - frogskin $2 coin - Hawkie (after Bob Hawke) $5 - Stuart Diver (fiver), Hail Mary (Mackillop?) $10 - heeler $20 - redback, salmon, lobster $50 - pineapple, mud crab, Mrs Doubtfire (aka Robyn Williams) $100 - mintie, hundy, cabbage leaf, green drink ticket, shark Dougie gave me a copy of the 12th Man Boned to listen to. I didn't find Richie too good but loved Ray Warren and the Kiwi names. Also enjoyed Alan Jones and Mark Taylor... Worth a listen.
Fuck Off Saddam, you're out!
I stayed at home last night and watched the fireworks on TV 'cos I always find going to the city somewhat of a let down. On TV you can see everything, don't have to have a fight to get home and there's no dickheads around, unless of course you invite them over!
12月24日 A Merry CHRISTMAS to AllYou may remember that last year I warned everyone to only wish me a Merry Christmas not merry xmas... As if to spite me, fucking Optus have put an ad on the top of this blog which says 'xmas' twice. They even have the nerve to put the 'x' in capitals... Fuck you Optus you are gunna get barred, that's one strike... How do you like them apples, Boytz?
It was a boring week at work. Only good job I did was to travel to Newcastle and do some work on HMAS Parramatta. All the rest was crap. Was supposed to do Patricks on Wednesday but got rained out, damn. We were supposed to be getting all the gear ready to change the head ropes at Metro Colliery (Helensburg) but the ropes that we airfreighted in from Korea, at great expense, were the wrong type. So that job got cancelled by a not very happy customer. That fuck up was purely the fault of the person who ordered the ropes, yet nothing happened to him! If I didn't pick up on the fact that you cant use a lubricated rope on a friction winder we would have installed them and there is a very real chance that people would have died. A very similar thing happened recently at PeakGold in Cobar, (job wasn't done by us though and I don't think anyone died, luckily).
Visited my mate Scott and his family last night. I had a couple of beers while he wrapped his kids presents and punched a few cones. He had this toy ten pin bowling set which had a label on it about 10 times saying 'Safety Innocuity Divertingness'. We couldn't work out what the fuck that was supposed to mean. It sounds important. We didn't have a computer there so Google was no help... It bugged me until I got home and then it bugged me some more. The thing was made in China and it looks like some smart arse has used some sort of translator which missed the point. The best I could come up with was to break it down word for word. Safety - designed to prevent accidents. Innocuity - Not really a word, but my best guess is that it the noun of innoculate. Now innoculate is to render harmless so a noun of that would be the state of being harmless. Divertingness - Also not really a word but diverting is so maybe it's to entertain/amuse by distracting the attention of worrisome thoughts... Out of all that how does SAFE, HARMLESS, WORRY FREE sound? That wasted 2 hours of my life and I want it back thanks China...
Dutchie - If marbles are not made of marble, why are they called marbles?
It's a close race between the folders and the scrunchers, but scrunchers are ahead. Here's the latest... Take My Poll
